About Trillium: Wild Edibles

Here at Trillium: Wild Edibles; things are a little different. I take a simple, straightforward, hands on, no BS approach to teaching you about wild edibles. I work directly with you to design my foraging classes around your personal fitness and experience level. That helps me to determine where the class will take place and what route we will take, so I can best meet your needs. I care about not only conservation of plants and their environments, but the animals in them as well. This is one reason I do not hold large classes, imagine 15 people tromping off trail picking wild edibles. Sure 3-500 years ago, no big deal, but now it is a big deal. Keeping my foraging classes small and private minimizes ecological footprint, and allows me to get to know you a little better so I can better help you.

You won't find an official indoor classroom here. I tend to stick to my roots (intentional), therefore the classroom is the outdoors. Every class is hands on, you get to see, touch, smell, and sometimes taste, various plants. Many regular classes get food to take home that you picked yourself, and most beginner classes get to sample wild foods. The whole time we are in the sun, shade, wind, etc. we are exercising, and we are learning. This is a much healthier way to learn, than sitting indoors. It's also the best way to learn this sort of subject.

In class you'll learn things like; Plant identification, how to harvest for conservation, preparing wild edibles as food, where they like to grow, the rules of foraging, what you need to forage, and much more. Through all this, I show you the things I have learned over the years, miles, and hours. I don't use slideshows, power point presentations, etc. for teaching because there are no outlets in the woods.

Here you won't find degrees listed, my knowledge comes from experience, time, research, and dedication. I won't claim to be an expert or know it all, in my opinion, no one does. Why do I feel that way? There are too many plants, and too many nutrients, chemicals, oils, etc. in plants and far too many plant variations for anyone to know it all.

I started Trillium: Wild Edibles with a vision of teaching people about wild edible plants and the environments they live in. I wanted to be different from other wild edible teachers, several DO NOT offer their classes in the outdoors! It's rather hard to learn how to identify a plant and truly understand it's life cycle, growth patterns, variations, etc. with one picture. In the outdoors you can see these things yourself. Oftentimes, classes were treated as one size fits all. It simply does not work that way, every one has different needs, physical fitness, interests, experience, etc.

I hope we can schedule a class for you soon!
